The hours of operation at the Lillian Fraser Memorial Hospital Collaborative Emergency Centre are changing for two months.
Beginning Aug. 1, the emergency centre will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, as well as 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. It will be closed overnight during August and September.
An email from the Nova Scotia Health Authority says the overnight closures are due to a lack of nursing coverage.
“Two registered nurses have been recruited to the CEC and will be ready to practice in September,” the email reads. “NSHA would like to thank the doctors and nursing staff who have helped come up with a plan to address this challenge.”
Paramedics with Emergency Health Services will continue to respond to 911 during the closure times. Those experiencing a medical emergency should always call 911.
For non-emergency health advice from a registered nurse, HealthLink 811 is available 24 hours a day. The provincial Mental Health Crisis Line also operates 24/7 at 1-888-429-8167.
Anyone who is unclear about the availability of services may also contact the hospital at 902-657-2382.
