Two years after first hosting the Canadian Tire First Shift program, it’s making its return to Tatamagouche for the 2017/18 season.

The program is open to players between the ages of 6 and 10, and is designed to ease them and their families into the sport of hockey. The program offers a manageable time commitment that’s affordable, convenient, and, most importantly, fun. For those children who will turn 6 around the on-ice sessions, they’re also eligible for the program.

During the 2015/16 season, 45 youth enrolled in the First Shift program, with 40 reigstering with the Tatamagouche and Area Minor Hockey Association following its conclusion. Last season, 30 youth enrolled into the program, with a second six-week session offered with 26 returns. The hope is all 26 will register with the local association this fall.

Registration is already open for the First Shift program in Tatamagouche, which includes a fall 2017 program, as well as winter 2018 session. The maximum number of participants for each is 30.

The fall program will see a welcome event on Oct. 15, at 2 p.m., with on-ice sessions Oct. 29, Nov. 5, Nov. 12, Nov. 19, Nov. 26 and Dec. 3, 9-10 a.m.

For the winter program, a welcome event is set for Jan. 16 at 6 p.m. On-ice sessions will run 9-10 a.m. on Feb. 4, Feb. 11, Feb. 18, Feb. 25, March 4, and March 11.

Programs fill up quickly, so early registration is suggested. Families can register and pay directly through the program locator link online.
