Graduation at North Colchester High School (June 28, 2017) was, once again, a very special occasion.
The academic achievements of the 35 graduates were acknowledged and celebrated by family, friends and the entire community. “Standing room only” in the gym was a testament to the support for each and every student who has earned a high school leaving certificate.
A further testament to the support for the graduates was the extensive list of individual, organization and business bursary and scholarship donations to provide financial assistance as these young men and women move forward. Each graduate has contributed to the fabric of the school, and the message to them from their valedictorian spoke to the importance of that contribution to school spirit.
The graduation also marked a milestone in that it was the last class to graduate from North Colchester High. Sentiments and memories were strong, and they will never be forgotten. Hundreds of students from along the North Shore have shared in that great experience, and will hold those memories forever. Quality education, great athletic achievements, volunteering in the community, meeting, making and retaining lasting friendships have been an important part of those experiences.
The students who will be the first graduates of the Tatamagouche Regional Academy will also experience those same feelings about their new school. Bricks and mortar can never replace or erase those memories. As the MLA for Colchester North, let me once again say congratulations to the graduates. Be strong and be safe. As the learners of today, you will become the leaders of tomorrow.
Karen Casey, MLA
