Overnight closures at the Lillian Fraser Memorial Hospital Collaborative Emergency Centre are coming to an end.

Effective Oct. 1, the Collaborative Emergency Centre will resume regular hours of operation.

Since the beginning of August, the ER has been short on nursing staff while positions were being filled, meaning the usual nurse and paramedic team for overnight coverage was unavailable. For the past two months, it was open Monday to Friday, 8 a.m.-4 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

These hours remain in place until Oct. 1. Patients are reminded to arrive for registration one hour before the department is scheduled to close. Monday through Friday you must arrive by 3 p.m. and on weekends by 7 p.m.

Overnight service, by a nurse and paramedic team, will resume Oct. 1 from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m.

The public is also reminded that those experiencing a medical emergency should always call 911. For non-emergency health advice from a registered nurse, please call 811. The provincial Mental Health Crisis Line also operates 24/7 at 1-888-429-8167.

Anyone who is unclear about the availability of services may also contact the hospital at 902-657-2382.
