A six-week book study group will begin early November and focus on Naomi Klein’s ‘This Changes Everything: Capitalism vs. the Climate.’
Klein is a Canadian non- fiction writer, journalist and activist who presently lives in Toronto. She specializes on the topics of social justice, globalization and environmentalism.
Klein published ‘This Changes Everything’ in 2014. In it, she discusses her considerations that the earth is in a state of ecological instability. At the same time, we live in an era of free trade economics, which encourages people to consume and encourages companies to merge into powerful international corporations.
These are highly abstract contemplations describing a somewhat overwhelming and paradoxical situation. However Klein manages to present her thoughts through storytelling, sharing her own experiences as well as borrowing from other large scale historic challenges like abolishing slavery.
The book study group will meet every Tuesday afternoon from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Sunrise House (former Sunrise Mercantile), 1639 Hwy 6, Tatamagouche, starting Nov. 7 for six weeks. Each week, participants will discuss two chapters.
